My father used to tell a story of someone accidentally releasing incendiary bombs while a Lancaster was being 'bombed up' with a Tallboy Bomb at RAF Coningsby (If my memory serves correctly), he managed to get into a slit trench before the explosion and survived but he claimed the explosion broke windows at Lincoln Cathedral. I may have the details wrong as it is more than 50 years since I was told the story. Does anyone know anything about this?

This is one of the most human documentaries made about the Greatest generation with their individual stories told in brief phases in a way the general public will never experience without spending a lot of time with a veteran. The pictures of Ken Wallis are just wonderful

XM594 at Newark Air Museum makes a great setting for this video. It is also open to the public: I visit this Vulcan and have sat where these Gentlemen are sat quite a number of times. Great video :o)

That was fascinating. I knew the facts of the 'Navigators Story' as I was stationed at HQ Bomber Command 1966-68 and worked with the V-Force receiving position and simulated bombing reports etc. but it's fascinating to hear it first hand.

The film was made on and off over a few years, whilst working on commercial work also. Was made using a mix of photoshop, flash, after effects and good old pen and paper.

I swear to god, only we Brits we could have pulled this mission off!!! Such a long distance to fly with no proper map and an antiqued bombing computer and yet they still managed to hit the runway. Respect to the Vulcan men AND the Victor crews who made the whole operation possible.

Good animation. Love the characters and the story. I like how the masking was done on the black and white section. How long did it take to make and what program did you use.

this so important for our kids to know what our county did cant wait for the WAVE heritage to get off the ground my motto is KEEPING THE MEMORIES OF YESTERDAY FOR THE MINDS OF TOMORROW...

A very well produced and thought provoking film. Thank God that the nuclear option never had to be used again, and hopefully it never will. I'm currently reading 'Hullo Russia, Goodbye England' by Derek Robinson, and this film adds a lot of perspective to that "MAD' Cold War period. Thanks, Steve.

Gentlemen, I salute you now, like I would have saluted you at the time, when we were all serving members of the Royal Air Force, it is impossible to know how many lives from both sides were saved by your actions, in a similar way we will never know how many lives were saved after the Dam Buster raids. Whatever the pros and cons of whether it was right or wrong, I sincerely believe it was necessary, and I pray to God actions like this will never be necessary again.

Martin's such a nice chap, you'd never have thought he'd have been one to fly a bombing sortie but he showed great courage and skill that night to complete his mission AND return home safely knowing that they could have been in trouble on the way back to base.

Great little insight into the operation of the Vulcan and the crew who operated her.

I bought this a few days ago at a lincolnshire aviation museum (Lancaster NX611 is there too). This is such a moving film, told first hand by those that were their. Sometimes moving, always dignified, 'Into the Wind' is one of the best DVD's I have bought in a long while. Congratulations to Steven Hatton and Electric Egg.

Awesome film!!!...and both of the guys seem really genuinely quality people! Might need them and the Vulcan again soon if the disputes keep going on between us and the Argies. But in all seriousness great watch :)

Hi Ian - the first clips were filmed on ex-bomber bases in Lincolnshire and are shots from our archive from Into the Wind. The RAF Waddington Heritage via the website linked in the description - click "Aviation Attractions" and Waddington is listed.

Something you don't see very often is shadows !! Checkout near at 0:50 middle left of the screen ! The shadow of PA474.

A few questions if you don't mind ? Where was the first clips of the old buildings filmed at ?Where is the RAF Waddington Heritage Centre, is it actually in RAF Waddington ? Great video thanks for up-loading it.
